In the old version of Ubuntu 9.10, i would just press the key, and the compiz Scale Plugin would work and scale my windows.

I installed the new Ubuntu 11.10, and Fedora 14,15,16 too; but with the compiz scale, I cant figure out how to just scale with pressing . The default of Shift+Super+Up works fine, but I want it just to be .

Both of the below versions exhibit the same problem. Any ideas?
myfed14box$ compiz –version
compiz 0.8.6

myfed16box$ compiz –version
Compiz 0.9.5.92.1

Any ideas? Thanks so much.

How do you make Compiz + Scale work with just pressing and automatically achieving the same effect as ++Up.

The toggle works for shift super up, but i just want to use the windows key to activate scale.

Seriously? I don't think you know what GNU has actually done. Take a look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GNU_softwar…

So yeah, bash, coreutils, gcc, grub, gzip, tar* etc are all made by the GNU project, and most likely you use them everyday. That is why we must credit all the people that created the necessary components.

Please, please, do a little bit of research. You see, GNOME, Firefox, LibreOffice and such are not required for the operating system to run. GNU provides the tools and components for the basis of an operating system. Not every operating system has to have a graphic desktop environment, a web browser and other user tools to be considering an operating system. In essence, it would be the same as saying Windows 7/Firefox. Firefox is not required for the operating system to be useable.

True, but those communities do have a role, a responsibility: consumption and creating connections between various users. Without a defined goal, the community would be adrift.

I would find it sad, though, if the Ubuntu community were to move to such a state. Not that I ever expect it to become like that.

You know, its absolutely possible to build a community around _just_ product consumption where the community has no input in development or strategic planning in any obvious way. There are many real world examples of that.

The Apple user community is a community. A strong one based entirely on the activity of product consumption. They aren't asked or invited to participate in the development process. They are asked to consume solidly built products and they oblige with sincere enthusiasm for the opportunity to _purchase_ things.

Fan communities for tv shows or book authors or musical performers are also completely valid types of communities..based again primarily on the act of consumption and not on decision making nor any creative control.

And in all of those real examples _communities_ have zero say in how the products/services/works are developed. In fact in all those cases those self organizing communities are seldom really been asked or invited to be part of that development or creation process. Product consumption and the advocacy that others also purchase and consume the product is more than enough of an activity to form a community around. A seat at the decision making table is not a requirement at all.

Jammer dat je zo plots onbereikbaar was. Er kunnen 100-en (hele goede) redenen zijn om een tijdje niets te doen. Ik hoop dat je het de volgende wel even aankondigt. Zodat op zijn minst je teamgenoten weten waar ze aan toe zijn. Desalniettemin vind ik het heel mooi dat je je weer kandidaat stelt!

I fully disagree with what you say in the 2nd last section. Canonical targets business very clearly. They are indeed by far not as far as Red Hat for sure, but they work on that. No company can live on "consumer customers" only, even not Microsoft.

I empathize with the triagers, but think limiting the ability to report bugs would not be positive for the project or for free software, as it would leave the target audience without a voice when something goes awry and without any mechanism to suggest improvements and thus participate / contribute in the way they can to the software they love. Let’s not forget how important the Ubuntu community is to the project and its adoption.
